Why Pray?

When people ask Jesus questions throughout his ministry, Jesus usually responds by reframing the question, or asking them a question right back. But when his disciples ask Jesus to teach them how to pray, Jesus launches right into a 3-point sermon! What is so important about prayer, and why do followers of Jesus do it?
